My machines are all northwood, use fanuc oimb, and i am programming my machines through alphacam. No one seems to understand what is causing my eased edge tools to pause at their max z heights during oscillation. The machines also pause at certain entity intersections, mainly radii corners, which i believe coincides with my oscillation problem. I have other newer model northwood machines that run oscillated eased flawlessly. I have asked northwood techs but they don't understand either. I assume its something written in one of the sub programs but am unsure. Please help

I think it depends if your oscillation is based on Fanuc (or hardware based) or if it is based on Alphacam's software oscillation.
I have seen this issue with Alphacam's software oscillation. Since Alphacam's software oscillation is basically taking your toolpaths and chopping them up into tiny segments, sometimes it decides it's not worth oscillating on that particular element. You can see it if you run a simulation, or look at the generated toolpath in 3d view. If this is the type of oscillation that you are using, make sure that you are running Alphacam 2014 R2 since there was a critical error in previous versions that would cut circles while oscillating.
If your oscillation is hardware based, you shouldn't have this issue since the controller doesn't care that you are cutting a radius or line. It just knows to start oscillating while following a path, then to stop oscillating at the end of the path.

Thank you, I have never used the ozfunktion but I always thought it would work when I decide to. Mayby not!

obviously something in the version of Stonevision that's different between that on the other machines where it will work.
John Dickins would probably be one that could log in and look at them and figure it out.
He don't miss much when it's programs or software.

Thanks I'll pull up some programs in alphacam and take a look.

Re: why are my oscillated eased tools pausing in z
So i ran some renderings in alphacam and everything runs smooth. As far as the stonevision i bypass that and do not use it at all. The two machines that run the oscillation smoothly are belt driven spindles, whereas the two older ones with the problem are motor driven. Could this possibly effect my oscillation?

Mine is motor driven and i was told they would not oscillate at all.
Would be cool if they did.
Baffles me how NW can use the " never seen that one before" and then still not give you an answer ever on how to fix something.
Waht year is this machine?

The two machines that are having the problem are both later model routers. One is a 2004 model and i believe the other is a 2006 model.

I dont know if this will help you or not, I have several sets of tools oscillating using Alphacam but on a Park Industries machine. The guys at Diamond tooling solutions helped me set up everything and I have had no issues. Here is a link to there web page when you call ask for Troy or Jerry. http://www.diamondtoolingsolutions.com/

Hello Andrew,
Can you tell me which tools you are oscillating? What improvements have you seen? Better tool life, more even wear or better polish?

Re: why are my oscillated eased tools pausing in z
Ive seen improvements in all of the above on the machines that run the program correctly.

Other than fingerbit and z tools will probably be asking for trouble.thegreatace wrote:Currently im only oscillating my eased tools.
