Re: Laser Vs Proliner
James D went to an SFA Workshop, He was lookin' for a soul to steal.
He was in a bind 'cause he was way behind. He was willing to make a deal
When he came across this young man smoking his Template and playin' it hot.
And James D jumped upon a hickory stump and said "Boy, let me tell you what."
"I guess you didn't know it, but I'm a Templating Fool, too.
And if you'd care to take a dare I'll make a bet with you.
Now you Template pretty Damn good boy, but give James D his due.
I'll bet a Proliner of gold against your soul 'cause I think I'm better than you."
The boy said, "My name's Chris Evans from Rock Solid and it might be a sin,
But I'll take your bet; and you're gonna regret 'cause I'm the best there's ever been."
Chris set his 2D3D and shot his LASER hard
'Cause hell's broke loose in Georgia and James D deals the cards
And if you win you get this shiny Proliner made of gold
But if you lose the James D gets your soul
James D opened up his case
And he said, "I'll start this show"
And fire flew from his fingertips
As he set up his proliner
And then he pulled his string across the room
And it made an evil hiss
And a band of demons joined in
And it sounded something like this
When James D finished
Chris said, "Well you're pretty good old son
But you just sit down in that chair right there
I'm gonna show you how this stuff's done"
Fire on the mountain, run boys, run
The James D in the House of the Rising Sun
Chicken in the bread pan pickin' at dough
Granny does your dog bite? No child, no
Well that ol' James D bowed his head
Because he knew that he'd been beat
And he laid that golden Proliner
Down on the ground at Chris's feet
Chris said, "James D,just come on back
If you ever wanna try again
I done told you once you son of a bitch
The Laser and me are the best there's ever been"

The laser can shoot a radius table. If it could not we would not be in business.

Look at this tub video. About 3:20 sec in you can see the screen and the radius'

Re: Laser Vs Proliner
We haven't turned our disto on since we bought the proliner. We're holding onto it as a backup but really, at this point its a paper weight. And for shooting tubs, sorry but there's absolutely no comparison laser vs. proliner. Everything we do with the pro-liner there was a way to do with the laser. It just takes less than half the time with more accuracy. And yes I know lasers are accurate to ....1/132" blah blah blah
They're accurate until they're stretched. Then their as accurate to 1/4"... (or worse) But seriously, the proliner is just knock your socks off accurate.
We've had a few stick template jobs come our way. Digitizing with a laser was a chore. With the proliner it takes more time to lay out the templates then to digitize. And again, no targets. Just easy and accurate. We made a crazy tear drop curved bar, with a serpentine raised portion that was all laminated and scribed to a curved wall. Went in like a jig saw puzzle. Before the proliner it was "laser the wildly out of square stuff and tape measure everything else". Now its, proline everything. Even islands, even full splash. We never found it worth it to measure splash with a laser. Tape measure was much faster.
Sorry laser guys, but James' will definitely hands down win this contest. (he will though lose the mitering one

We own all three devices. We use the lt55 the most by far, accuracy has never been an issue and speed is debatable. We do standard kitchens all day. 1 or 2 tubs a year and we stick template all fhbs after the decks go in.
We use the proliner for digitizing stick templates. I could imagine pulling that cable out in all of the new builds. Painters, trim guys and flooring guys would hit it no doubt. Hell they bump the tripod once a week.

Re: Laser Vs Proliner
The last template shoot out was at Briggs shop. Nobody shined except the Margarita Maker in the end.
Proliner is great for tubs. We use 6 LT55's everyday to template 40+ jobs a day and one guys makes stick templates of curved tubs. The laser can shoot them just fine, the reality is, placing of the targets is the issue. By the time you make jigs to hold all of the targets you could make the stick template.

Re: Laser Vs Proliner
That is where the Leica shines. Set it in the tub but some tape to kill the shine and shoot.
I like the pro liner but for 13000 more I will figure out a way to use the laser.
Alex let me know if you want to sell it later on.

Re: Laser Vs Proliner
I think that a lot of it has to do with the type of jobs you're making, and the standard you're held to. Our jobs have nothing open. There's always a finished panel and there's no clearance at stoves. As soon as we got the proliner we stopped having to cut pieces on site. And to hell with targets! I measured a job today, a kitchen with four waterfalls, a 60" splash with outlet cutouts, hood duct cutout, a farm sink, another top with a splash that goes around a window. 30mins tops, and its a fairly clean file with very little editing needed to send it to the saw. There is no doing this with laser! If I had the laser I would have measured the whole thing with a tape measure. Then I would have drawn the parts in cad, hoping I didn't get dyslexic transferring the numbers from my chicken scratch note pad to the computer.
