Slabsmith for Inventory

We have just recently got our slabsmith station set up and are now playing with it and trying to get the real world usage ironed out.

One thing we really want to use it for is tracking our inventory and remnants. Is anyone out there doing such a thing and would be willing to share via posts or phone calls some of their slabsmith knowledge.

We currently use slabsmith for all our inventory. We even enter consignment slabs in before they are even pictured so our salesman know what is available. We use the barcode system as well to locate all of the inventory and it seems to be working great. I would be more than happy to share any information and answer any questions, just let me know.

Mike, We are purchasing slabsmith in the next month or so and I am trying to get a better idea of how other people use it. If we skip the scanner is it possible to manually input slab numbers? do you photo all remnants that also come off the table?
Do you have a dedicated person to do the photographing or is it your sawyer's job?

We use it to track slabs and remnants. Feel free to reach out. Depending on the question, it could go over my head. We bought a $50 bar code scanner and it works great if you keep up with it. The only hard part is making sure the data entry doesn't get muddled. We have about 50 different Calacattta names in there so its annoying to find Calacatta remnants.

I was doing SlabSmith inventory web integration for one my clients.
They are successfully using SlabSmith inventory not only for managing shop inventory but also to present it on their website.

We use SS and have our entire inventory pictured some 1000 slabs,we don't use a bar code scanner we just type in the allocated number and it pulls up that particular slab, bundle, block and or all remnants that are related to that slab. Been using it for about years and love it, there service is great!

If Rems are drawn on original slabs when producing jobs they are automatically saved in data base with corresponding slabs of similar data. Say you forgot to generate Rem when slabsmithing job, no problem just repicture Rem and put new tag on it.

I would say that between my yield savings alone meaning being able to reuse Rems with full slabs I paid for the Slabsmith in about 8 months to a years time. I am consistently biding 2 slab jobs and now getting them in 1 slab and paid for Rems off of other jobs.
