square inside corners
Hi again. I have a couple customers looking to do square inside corners with an elite edge. I am looking for suggestions and the easiest possible way to do such a thing. I appreciate it. Thanks

Re: square inside corners
What is an elite edge?
Full Bull, OG, Double Bubble....?
It might be some easy hand work with some special tools.

Re: square inside corners
Not exactly sure what an 'elite' edge is... on the other hand, I can't really think of an edge where an inside corner could not be created with a Makita! unless its something like the top half of an ogee you want a square corner on... in that case a Dremel would be needed in addition to the Makita!

Re: square inside corners
Laminated 2 cm?
Can you post a drawing?
I'd think you can do hand work in that corner to clean-up whatever is left by your router by hand.
We do it all of the time in 3cm and laminated 3cm.

Re: square inside corners
I have been trying to load a pic but it's not having it. It's a concave edge with a stepped out stepped down single bulnose. So I'm guessing I need to get a die grinder and cut it in. This will be on granite. So I would appreciate some suggestions on the tools being used for this application. Thanks again.

Re: square inside corners
Another thought, how about a euro miter seam in the corner?

Re: square inside corners
We use die grinder and burr bits, Dremel sells small diamond blades that have been very handy.

A Euro seam is what we would normally do but we have a decorator and an architect requesting we make the corners with no seams.

Picture needs to be under 2meg in size. Email it to yourself sometimes shrinks it down in size.Roughby wrote:I have been trying to load a pic but it's not having it.

Re: square inside corners
I have several bits available for something like this where you are getting in tight corners.
I'll post a poster for you to get an idea on the size radius you would like to achieve.

The easier ways - IMO - to upload pictures are.
On a smart phone- text the picture to yourself and then download it.. when you text the pic it will resize itself.
On a computer- use a screen capture program like Green Shot (if you don't already have this - GET IT) and save the picture to a file... using green shot automatically resized the pic under 2mb - using this method also eliminates the possibility of your picture being upsidedown or sideways (as long as its not that way when you're viewing it on screen.

Going to need some dremmel or die grinder tooling. see above and make sure to contact me with any questions. A makita isn't going to get that tight.

Re: square inside corners
I don't think you could possibly every charge enough to pull off that edge detail under the stated expectations... curious to see what others think- what's the material?

Re: square inside corners
Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. I don't think square inside corners in countertops are a good idea anywhere; seems like asking for a crack starter. No edges with a sharp 90* at the top, I don't care what the designer and architect want. That's fabricating a chip factory. Maybe for a trophy shelf, but not a working kitchen countertop.

Re: square inside corners
Relatively simple but time consuming detail to carve, do a sample in you shop and you will know what you should charge.
On a different note, nothing wrong with square corners on natural stone, its been done for thousands of years.

Re: square inside corners
You will need a die grinder, ball mill and a blunt tip. Also, 2" baby rock discs come in handy for the polishing of the stepped portion of the profile. You will also want diamond sheets. You can make a form to fit the radius of the cove and hand polish. A little more difficult if a dark material.
We had a builder that ALL inside corners had to be squared. Make sure you charge a good penny for this, it is time consuming

Re: square inside corners
Paul, that will certainly provide the correct profile.
Due to the radius of the tooling,, it would not be possible to achieve an inside 90 degree angle. The tool diameter will dictate that the corner would have a slight radius.
