MIA Sink Rail Detail Fail
Ask yourself these questions;
If a seam lets go due to settling who is it easiest to point the finger at?
If a rail breaks, but the seam holds, because of settling who is it easiest the point the finger at?
I am in the stone business not the cabinet business, or home building business. If a rail breaks because the cabinets dropped I can charge to fix it or replace it. If a seam lets go I'm on the hook. If your cabinets settle 1/4 and something breaks call the cabinet shop or the home builder. Or better yet call Kowboy. Kowboy I give you credit for the work you do on your repairs.
I have no interest building in a weak point because of some possible future failure that is out of my hands. Would you have me purposely add seams where these possible weak points might be? Even when the job and the material allow me to not have a seam? Should ship builders use weak welds so they can predict better where a Boat will break apart?

I don't know if there was a washer installed at this joint or not, but this is what happens when the joint is stronger than the stone.
Ok. Who put the seam over the dishwasher?

That is exactly what I was looking at.
Seam over a dishwasher, only one way of doing that even though it's not a good idea.

I would put a seam over a dishwasher if layout dictated it.

Alex:
Sorry I didn't say so earlier, but the pictured crack next to the seam is at a cooktop over a built-in oven, not a dishwasher. More poor detailing. The frameless cabinet offers no strength in tension and should have been reinforced inconspicuously across the oven opening.

Years ago I was called to repair some Corian tops that were cracked and cupped from heat from customer abuse. I was thinking "What kind of idiot would install tops a quarter-inch out of level front to back?" Then it hit me. It was me. I had installed these tops several years earlier as an employee of a solid surface fabricator when this home was new, however, they were dead level when I left the job, guaranteed. That new home had shrunk and put the tops out. It happens.
Yes, you can charge to repair failed stone, but which repair would you rather make? A washer blown out through a rail or a mismatched seam? I wouldn't "purposely add seams" at weak points if they weren't needed, but I'd much rather know my seam is weaker than the surrounding stone so that if one has to go, it will be the seam which can easily be remade.

In an attempt to answer the last time you asked this, I asked you a fair question 10 posts ago. You haven't answered. Please do. Thanks.

Answering a question with a question is not an answer. But if you go back and look at Andy's answer you will notice I agreed with his answer, so yes I did answer you question/answer. Again, your point with this silly article is?

You can call me and my articles "silly" names, but readers here are more sophisticated than you and Cameron are giving them credit for being. They are expecting an articulate rebuttal and so far they haven't heard it.

And please answer so a guy like me with only 8 years of public school can comprehend it, you may choose any of the 5 languages I can somewhat read.
I'm sure a lot of us readers and contributors are, as me, not nearly as sophisticated or articulate as you presume.
I called you a handyman and your article silly, that's is not rude or untrue.

My rebuttal was in my first post. You wrote an article condemning a procedure that you admittedly have never seen in person and have no experience with. You're reaching incredibly hard
