spindle not recognizing tool
Hi Everyone,
I have Breton CNC, and I had Breton install a new spindle in it three months ago. ever since then, the new spindle drops tools once in awhile, and now it doesn't recognize the tool its holding, by giving an error "no tool in spindle" even though it's holding a tool.
Anyone else have these problems?
Thanks
Vinny

Re: spindle not recognizing tool
I have a brembana and my spindle has a sensor on top of the spindle that can be adjusted
Not sure about Breton but maybe it's set to sensitive

Re: spindle not recognizing tool
There's about 3-4 reason and issue that can cause this.
1 your gripper being done or got unscrew or dirty.
2. Your cone is done or dirty (Hsk cone are pretty sensitive to this the interior of the cone has to be spotless)
3. Your sensor on top of the spindle is not working.
4. Your drawbar is going down because of internal water pressure or o-ring going bad
since its a new spindle most of that shouldn't be the issue. Go in MDI erase whatever is there type in m21 press cycle start (this will open the gripper)
Get a caliper and a 3mm washer that usually comes with cone, put the washer on the bottom of the spindle and measure the distance between the end of the gripper (what is sticking out) and the washer. (Should be 7.5mm with a 3mm wasker) if your out of this recalibrate your gripper.
After that I could walk you through the menu to sort out what is going wrong, I would be happy to help 819-712-1637 call me tomorrow.
If you go in diagnosis---- plc status you can enter whatever sensor you want data on the machine (really nice feature). This way we can see if your gripper is holding properly and get some info on it.
Your data for tool recognition might be off from your old spindle to. 2.2 spindle open, 7.6 tool in and 8.4 spindle close no tool. You can change this in the startup menu.

Re: spindle not recognizing tool
Some of the above info is really dependent on which spindle he has. VEM has 2 sensors, Breton has 1 sensor.
First thing I would test is after performing m21 in MDI, does the gripper rotate? It shouldn't. The demensions I believe are different between the 2 types of spindles. If Breton, use a # 5 Allen wrench to tighten set screw through middle of gripper. It needs to be at correct length first, if not set properly you'll know right away during tool change.

Re: spindle not recognizing tool
The Breton spindle on the evo might be different.
But all k26 k40 spindle has two sensor to.
One tells you open or close. The other one is internal to the spindle capture magnetic distance and give you the above info on the drawbar position.
I might be wrong but I know gamfior spindle in and out. I saw new Breton spindle they might be updated but their literally gamfior rebadge. Nothing wrong with it
After all those are killer spindle and with good care should.last 6-7 years and more.
I'll send you a picture of where to go tomorrow to gather info on your drawbar and change your setting .
Menuselect-diagnosis-plc status on the left line you can enter every sensor on the machine usually go.like this e041 those sensor are all in the electrical schematic of the machine. I'll post you the one you need to type in once they are they will stay there.

Have you contacted Breton? They did install the new parts. I would think they would be helpful.

Here's the place to change the value so you can keep running for a bit
those number should be in the 7 range of they are lower you should not continue and either check your gripper or your cone.

Re: spindle not recognizing tool
if it randomly drops tools it could be due to a lack of air pressure. A burst of air is what causes the clamp to engage. I had this problem a few months ago.

Hi Dan,
Yes I've contacted them repeatedly. Its under warranty. I'm still trying to get them to come and fix the issues under warranty, but as of now no luck. that's why i'm trying to ask anyone for help. I hope someone from Breton will stand behind their warranty and help.
if you know anyone with Breton experience please let me know.
