Has anyone else experienced this with LT2D/3D software (used in concert w/AllenCAD)
When I template, I typically make my finished ends square w/ the finished face of my countertops, ignoring how out of square the cabinet side is to the face frame. My method for doing this is as follows:
Select rotate drawing (or whatever it's called, on the right side of the screen) & I click on the finished face overhang of my countertop. Zoom in to an open end & drop in a 20" line on the side of the cabinet (snap point where the side panel meets the back of the face frame), then I offset that 20" line to create my open end of the countertop. Since I told the drawing to align to the finished face of my countertop, dropping in a line that starts perfectly verticle, & tapping the mini-display box to rotate it accordingly should yield me a line that's 90 degrees from said finished face of countertop.
Well, upon loading it into AllenCAD, I pulled an angle dimension & was surprised to find it was actually 90.002 degrees. I've noticed this was the case on the past 3 jobs. I know, it's BEYOND negligible. I'm just curious how it could be off by any amount at all, based upon the method I'm using to make square corners.
Any ideas on how to chase this down?

I would concentrate on the "beyond negligible" part of your story and find something more worthwhile to chase down

This has to do with the programming language used to write the software. When C# is used, there are three basic types of numbers. Float, Double, and Decimal. Each one represents a number but they each carry varying precision. For example:
float: 0.3333333
double: 0.333333333333333
decimal: 0.3333333333333333333333333333
To allow the software to be as responsive as possible, there was a judgment call made as to the greatest precision that was required when fabricating. Rounding to a thousandth of an inch was decide upon being tight enough as the slightest wiggle of a blade wouldn't be noticeable. The reason you would see .002 is the buildup of multiple points being taken into account.
Thing to note. An average human hair is .06mm or .002.

Are you making countertops or watches? Seriously this might be why it's taking you so long to template.the_dionysian_1 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 22, 2017 2:19 pmHas anyone else experienced this with LT2D/3D software (used in concert w/AllenCAD)

Well, Tim beat me to it. I don't want to beat you up, but things like this ridiculous concern paints a bad picture for you and your current situation at your job. No wonder your boss is getting aggravated with the amount of time it takes. There is nothing wrong with the way you are making the open end square to the front, I often do the same thing. But even posing this question is a waste of time that could have been spent doing something more productive. Come to think of it, the time it took me to respond to this could have been spent better.
We all want to help you get better at your job. That's what we are about. But you've got to take a hard look at yourself and realize that you are part of your problem. Sorry if you take any of this wrong.

I offset my ends much the same way but most of the time I wait to do it until I'm back in the office and in AlphaCam, bigger screen + more hot keys= shorter edit time.
