Read the 4" splash thread with great interest. Good info.
made me wonder how many fabricators take the extra step to cut 3CM material to 2CM for splash (assuming you are in an area like me where almost everything is 3CM)
So .. what percent 3CM or 3CM cut to 2CM?

We do rip 3cm down to 2cm but charge accordingly or move them to tile back splash which is about 80% of the time.

The splashes we do stay the same thickness as the countertop because most of the time the clients do not want to pay extra for the work to thin down the thickness. If they do want to pay the extra labour then no problem.

Re: 4" splash - 2CM or 3CM?
Usually keep it at 3cm but there are times when a 2cm will make a huge asthetic improvement like smaller vanities or 18" deep cabinets. I don't charge to mill down splash cause it really only takes a few minutes and I figure I make that up in the faster polishing time.

Re: 4" splash - 2CM or 3CM?
Usually tell customers it matches countertop thickness unless they want to pay to have it milled down. We now go over that detail because we had a customer who did a 6cm countertop and thought the backsplash should be 6cm, it took us many meetings to convince him we didnt charge him a 6cm edge price on his backsplash, faucets would have not cleared a 6cm splash so he thought we needed to remake tops so he could get the 6cm splash he thought he paid for, small details can bite you in the butt.

Re: 4" splash - 2CM or 3CM?
Hi, what is the typical cost for milling down 3cm quartz (Calacatta gold) to 2cm? My fabricator is charging me $18 per sqft which I find pretty substantial so I wanted to check with you guys whether that was reasonable/market price.

We charge $5 a lineal ft for 3-4" high splash which is roughly about $15-$20 a sq ft. For 3" and 4" splash we cut it rather than mill it.
