has any one used this gun?

i took the kids out today with a friend and his kids he has a few ar rifles. (mine is still under construction )
well most of what we shot was .22 but the kids did fire the ar a few times. after words the kids all want one of coarse so i told them if they do good in school and continue to be the good responsible kids they are i will get them one when they turn 16 so i was looking into the .22 version. my daughter wants a pink AR15

The cost is about $475. The reviews are mixed on reliability. There are several options.

im more worried about reliability than any thing. if i have to worry about it i will go with the ruger 1022

The 10-22 can be configured very much like an AR style rifle, I just saw one today at the gun show.

that was kind of my thought. i was looking into the rugers (i have one but it is just the standard model)

while looking into the modifications that can be made to them i came across the S&W i guess what i'm rely looking for is adjustable but stocks as kids grow i want them to fit the kids so they can use them properly and safely

i let the kids take a few shots each with the .45 today they handled it well

so what would you go with not just between the ruger or S&W any rifle something that can grow with them

I know 70 year old men who smile when they shoot their 10-22. At the age of 16, the kids are not going to change substantially in size, I would go with a 10-22 for several reasons.

I'm wet behind the ears when it comes to rifles. (Been the hunting, 12ga shotgun type) Funny this post came up. I have been wanting to buy an AR-15 for quite some time. What's the difference between a 10-22 and an AR-15? Yes, looking for reliablility and accuracy.

The standard Ar 15 rifle shoot .223 centerfire cartridges (like the Army uses), the 10-22 uses .22 rimfire, which are very small and for a different purpose than the .223 round. The S & W Ar 15 in ,223 is a very reliable and accurate gun. The 22 version is a different story.

this is an AR 15 it is a .223 cal or 5.56 there is a slight difference between the two. 5.56 is a nato and will where out the barrels on a standard .223 faster. in guns fitted for 5.56 the chamber is slightly larger because the 5.56 rounds tend to be a hotter military type round the barrel i bought for my ar15 has a wylde chamber that way i can use both with increased accuracy correct me if i am wrong on that

The NATO designation as nothing to do a "hot round" only what is acceptable type of ammunition is issued to NATO forces. The generally accepted NATO rounds are 5.56 (.223), 7.62 x 51 (308), The military ammo is not generally hotter than civilian stuff, probably the exact opposite.. Military ammo is very reliable, first and foremost, Each batch of ammo is tested rigorously to ensure certain standards of reliability.

i did a lot of looking before buying my barrel and found that the chambering is different for a .223 5.56 and the wylde chamber. i know what i have read on reputable sites whats your take on it

Any difference between the .223 and the 5.56 is so small and insignificant to the shooter. I believe that they are completely interchangeable. The wylde chamber is new to me, so I know very little about it first hand. There are a few different types of chambers, I prefer the polygon chambers of the H & K for fire function reliability. What is different about the wylde chamber. Most military weapons have a chrome lined barrel for easy cleaning, as the fouling does not harm the harden chrome as it does carbon steel.

As far as the MP15-22 goes, I have a buddy that has this gun and I have put thousands of rounds through it. As far as reliability goes I have no problem with it, AFTER you find a round that works in that gun. I had a ton of jams in it until I started using a 2 specific brands of ammo then it worked unfailingly. Since then I haven't had a jam since. The thing is actually a tack driver now that it got figured out. Sad my buddy doesn't shoot it very often. I have it in my possession more than he does. It's a fun little plinker.
I also own a 10-22 and I think every gun owner should have one of these in their arsenal.

Here's the specs: .223/5.56 20" LW-19(CRO-MOLY) steel with 1/2"X28 threaded muzzle, Var-Tac Contour- .875" in front of the chamber, .750 Gas block, .735" at the threaded muzzle. Polygonal rifling 1 in 8" twist with the .223 WYLDE Chamber. WALTHER

i will be finishing it after new years her is a list of whats left and what i have chosen to use

-bolt carrier= young manufacturing $105 i have the bolt already
-upper= vltor or black rain upper $200
-arm guard = yankee hill Diamond Series Forearms free floating and not to expensive $176
im sure there are some more small parts i will need like the barrel nut charging handle and sights
