I just got a deal on some Kashmir White Polished , but knew it had some rust spots in it when I agreed. I assumed I would either hone, then poltice and maybe even brush the face.
I used to have a product called rust rip I used to remove rust stains in stone, but cannot seem to find it. What works on rust spots ?? Does the Mangia Maggnia ??

Re: rust spots
Try Naval Jelly. You can find it at Napa Auto parts. It works and it's cheap.
The other product I've used is a rust remover and I think it's by Alpha. It worked good too.
Both get used like once every 3 years.

Re: rust spots
We (one of my guys) just took some large rust stains out of Ottawa Green that had been in our remnant rack over a year. He used 000 steel wool and acetone, and elbow grease.
Joe - I've got a bucket of Alpha stain remover if the steel wool doesn't work. Not sure if this is much better but I can ship you a baggy of it to try if you want. Just PM me with your address.

Re: rust spots
Thanks, guys.
The acetone and steel wool did not work, I will try iron out or navel jelly next, then on the bonstone or Alpha stain remover.
I'll keep you posted as to what works. may take David up on his offer

Re: rust spots
There are two types of rust stains.
1. Topical......Stone rested against aframe, or something rusty and got some rust on it.
2. Internal.....Stone has iron content and it rusted from the inside out.
1. Is possible........2. is possible only if minor. If the spots are bigger then a dime, good luck......
Muratic acid from HD in the pool supply works best, but test on scrap first. Never on marble.

Re: rust spots
Its not fully topical, but not sure about rusting from with-in either.Bigger than a dime in places, not consistant as far as laying against a metal frame either. Almost feel like something got between the slabs and rusted, but not sure yet.
Planned on laying one down on the bed and trying differnt things / poltices over the weekend, but the day got short and I ran out of time.
F--it, Got a fishing tournament in the morning, spending the weekend having fun
so I'm plan to work it in next.

Re: rust spots
If the rust stains come from the inside and the slabs have been resinated then it'll be very costly to remove them as no rust remover (to my knowledge) will penetrate the resin. The only solution would be to hit the slabs with a course diamond, apply the rust remover and then re-polish and hope the stains don't come back before you get paid for the job.
