Re: cracked uba tuba piece
Sounds like a rod crack, can you post a picture ?
Pretty difficult, expecially if the homeowner saw it.

Probably not, you can at best make it hard to notice.

Re: cracked uba tuba piece
there is a penetrating epoxy from wood and stone that works well water clear but you can color it the bad news is you will probably have to surface polish it to get good results but it will still be seen like a fissure
i personally would replace it considering it is just ubatuba
if the customer has seen it you will never satisfy them

When surface polishing would turtle wax and a 3000 pad work do you think?

Re: cracked uba tuba piece
I love the wood and stone products, but although they are water clear as they pour, they do not stay that way so be careful. We would use the super penetrating for uba tuba. I love that stuff even though Cameron hates it.

Re: cracked uba tuba piece
If you cannot polish it to shine with-out wax, the wax will wear off pretty fast, expecially at a sink front thats always being cleaned.
In the search box, put in "Kasco top polishing", you should find a video to do this with-out wax.
Fill the void / crack with colored penetrating, then top polish.
Avoid using wax.

Re: cracked uba tuba piece
No wax. Use the plexus UV cure adhesive kit as directed - it will sink into the stone very well. Like the others have said you may need to top polish. I would practice your top polishing before doing this in a customers home. If it does not work you will be replacing it anyway but if you cannot top polish you will look even worse in front of your customer.

Re: cracked uba tuba piece
If its prefab, You might just be better to replace it.
Dont take this the wrong way. But if you havent fabbed much, you will be better off to just replace it. By the time you figure the TP thing out.
Even buying the tools right now wouldnt make since unless it was a more expensive stone.
Replace the top and learn to TP for the next time. UT can be a pits to learn on anyway.
now, if the glue fixes the problem by itself (probably wont) your AOK.
You may lose your creditbility (spl) if you try to 'fix" this. IMOP

On 2cm uba tuba prefab, I would just put in a new piece.

if its a rusting rod, and you do a REALLY good repair, its still just a band-aid

Re: cracked uba tuba piece
If it's a tiny crack you might want to use Super Glue (CA) and the accelerator spray to instantly harden the glue. It's water thin and dries instantly. You then use razor blades to shave the dried glue until smooth -- don't scrape the glue off because it will all come out -- just shave the glue with the blade perpendicular to the granite (back and forth). Does that make any sense (hard to describe without showing a video maybe).
Can you feel the crack?
I would probably not try to top polish on this one (if I were you) -- the turbo pads aren't cheap, Uba (unresined) can be very tricky and you probably won't get it to shine the same until you've practiced a decent amount.
Good luck!

And -- it's customary on this site to post your name and location so we get to know each other better.
There might be someone near by that you could go visit to get help learning to top polish.
I see now you're from OK -- nevermind the location part...
You might want to check the locator to see who else is nearby.

Its prefab, I bet their are no rods. does the crack crosss from edge to edge of sink? Just replace the piece, and learn to top polish on your own time!!!

Re: cracked uba tuba piece
I am sure there is no margin in the job to replace, blanks are what, $20 a ft. installed or so. Just put some kind of glue in it and use the turtle wax idea, sounds good to me. It is what they paid for, and what should be expected. If they did any homework then they understood that the guy that wanted twice as much would have replaced it or repaired it flawlessly without them even knowing about it. The polish and seams would all be better and in better locations and so on and so fourth. At some point, unless you decieved them, they decided that money was the top priority. If they complain remind them why they chose the blanks in the first place and you didn't hear them complaining about saving all that money for the "same thing".
