I have a slab that a fabricator's customer of mine fell in love with. This slab has been in our warehouse for 6 years, due to the fact that it has 15 circles. It appears to be from the suction cups. The fabricator say it and "thinks" he can use ager on it to make it go away.
Take a look and is there anything I should tell him about how to "fix" this.
I would have to guess that they picked it up before the resin was cured. I am not experienced with it though. I would try ager or tepox on it. It definitely can't hurt since you have had it so long.
Any more suggestions?
I think they picked it up before the resin had cured. That is an uneducated guess. The circles dont go through to the back of the stone, but you cannot feel them either.
One of the local suppliers brought us some Dubai with the same type circles. We torched them and most of it dissipated. As to why, I don't know. [Dubai is like limestone with a pedigree. It ain't granite]
We re-resin stuff everyday and I've never had this happen to any of ours.
My initial thought had been resin as well, but the skinny circle would appear to be the rubber portion of the cup. Not where the vacuum is present. Plus, the inside and outside of the ring are the same color. So, the suction itself did nothing. Perhaps the rubber perimeter disturbed the curing of the resin, thus removing it from the surface. [That assumes virtually zero penetration from the factory applied resin. That's not really likely, either]
Ager might work for a while, but it is not a permanent solution. [Geramie, you can try a little section and test that theory]
The final solution is a re-grind/re-resin/re-polish, but if Levantina has been sitting on this 6 years, the economics of a permanent fix won't be favorable.
