Urine or You're Out....
A friend of mine e-mailed this to me today, not sure where he found it, but I thought I would pass it on...
Like most folks in this country, I have a job. I work, they pay me. In order to get that paycheck in my case, I am required to pass a random urine test (with which I have no problem). What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test.
So, here’s my Question:
Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them? Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sitting on their ass doing drugs, while I work. . .
Can you imagine how much money each state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check? I guess we could title that program, “Urine or You're Out”

Re: Urine or You're Out....
Tynan thanks for the great post. My two cents... Welfare or unemployment check from the goverment should have a urine test. The thought of helping others is great... But then to think that some are using this money for drugs, alcohol or just things that the money was not intended for. I know, but do not consider them friends, people that are collecting unemployment while doing drugs, spending all of it at the bar. Some things are great, some things like this is just F**ked up!

Re: Urine or You're Out....
Yeah that would work. But most people that are collecting are not growing ther own. They buy ther own. Most people who have been collecting for so long would not have the motivation to even try it. Some people who go on unemployment and such will eat it all up untill it is gone even knowing they can get a job. But also can't work because they will not pass a drug test. You take a stoner or alcoholic and give them an allowence every week/month do you really thing they will go out and look for a job?

It never ceases to amaze me whenever an anti welfare thread pops up, everyone is against individuals getting it, but there is virtually no objection when corporations suck govrnment tit. Believe me, the welfare given corporations DWARFS that given humans no matter how you measure.
Go ahead guys, get your panties in a rightous indignation bunch, but you'd carry more weight with me if you were angry with the rich guys who are already rolling in dough:

I'm against welfare of all types that emanate from the government for this simple reason: the money was taken by force from the people who earned it. Corporate welfare is utterly disgusting and goes against every free market principle that has built the power house economy that we once knew. As far as the claim that more $$ are given in corporate welfare than to individuals, thats a pretty strong claim that depends on how you label stuff.

If you look at the chart at this link, Social Security makes up 21% of the budget. What portion of that is actually retirement? There are alot of people collecting SSI disability that have gamed the system and could be gainfully employed in some capacity. Safety net programs make up 11% of the budget. Medicare, Medicaid and Chip make up 20%. Are these not welfare programs? (I'm not argueing the merits of the programs here). If we are catagorizing "welfare" as something taken from one group and given to another then welfare makes up 52% of the federal budget! Should we stop helping people? A catagorical "NO" from me, but I don't think that the government is always the best vehicle. The ultimate problem with social welfare programs to people (and corporations) is that, though well-meaning, it creates a dependant class that at some point always expects others to pay for things that they should be doing for themselves.
I have first hand seen multi-generational welfare (growing up in Canada) where able-bodied men in their 20's collected welfare that paid better than a pump-jockey job!! Another good example of the danger of welfare is the mess that the feds have created of most of the indian tribes. A once proud, independent people are now basically slaves to the government handout. In my view, no good comes of perpetual hand outs. And yes, it irks me to stand in line behind people who are buying all the choice, expensive groceries and paying with foodstamps while I must watch what I spend and sometimes have survived on alot of mac and cheese!!! And at some point, you will eventually run out of other people's money!!!!!!! It's not that I don't want to help others, it's just that I hate being abused. And I hate subsidizing really bad behaviour.

Re: Urine or You're Out....
I actually talked about drug testing in one of my final presentations for an Economics class last semester. Afterwards my professor and I had a long conversation about it. Basically it would be morally wrong to do that to the lazy people....LOL! If you didn't give them money, the crime rate would go up or other problems would arise. People that get goverment money, drug dealers, prostitutes & illegal aliens are what keep the cash money circulating. Money circulation is very important for the ecomony to work and fix itself.
It really is frustrating. I just stopped worrying about it. I only pay what I have to into the system. Us hard workers will always end up screwed. Just remember "Cash is King!". In these times, what good is it to have good credit, when it works against you. It's almost like: "Sorry sir, we can't give you no loan or help because we are only lending money to people that can't pay it back."

Exactly, Koyboy were simple talking about how we don't think its right for people who collect goverment assistance not having to take Urine Test. Its very simple...

Oh and it ceases to amaze me when people pop up and high jack a thread...
