tepox v saves the day
A follow up to some testing I have been doing with Tenax Tepox v dyes.
One of the biggest fabricators in Phoenix didn't catch a radical difference in edge color for a 7,000sq ft house in the high end area of N Scottsdale. This company subs out all their installs so however the installer gets it that's what is goin' down.
I was asked to see if I could fix this before the homeowner demanded they be torn out. Fortunately they had not applied Ager to the pieces like the slab dealers' invoice said to do at 800 grit and after buff.
Again, I was originally told to mix tepox v with Ager to stain. They do not mix and once Ager is applied you're done. Worse if you apply the dye straight out of the can you cannot get it back out and it looks streaky. I ruined a top that way.
The results you will see in the pictures here were achieved using water and tepox v mixed about 70/30. What's nice about this way is you can keep adding the mix until you get the color you want without streaking. After I got the edge to match the top I let it dry( it was 114 degrees that day so it didn't take long) then I encapsulated with Ager. The general contractor and the fabricator were very happy with the results.

Hmmm. Petroleum based products now mix with water.
This may cause some confusion in the scientific community.
"once Ager is applied you're done." This could be true, but it's not. Wednesday's job was agered before I got a look at
the edges. We saved it after removing the ager and correcting the edges. The slabs had been dyed at the factory.
What kind of 'fabricator' lets this job out the door? Corey Hart Custom Fabrication?
Yes, the save was good, but the logic is not.

Nice save.
I always thought Tepox was solvent based too. Even with ager it may bleed out some in the future. It is a good thing they didn't seal it too. It saved a tear out.
I had a similar repair call for a builder last year - same stone with the dyed resin that the fabricators or installers sealed. I tried several times to get the tepox in. Finally had to tell them it needed to be taken out and re-edged with tepox in process. Not sure what ever happened in the end but I hate failing at an attempt to fix anothers mistakes.

Nice save with the Tepox btw! But it seems somewhat unfinished to me.What is Corey Hart known for unfinished returns. Product of the 80's!

Re: tepox v saves the day
Everyone keeps telling me that tepox v is solvent based. So why is it that it mixes well with water buts doesn't mix well with either formula of ager?
After everything dried I didn't get any color to come off when I wiped it down(I did not try acetone). I am not worried about bleed through but I did inform the customer that Tepox v is not UV stable and may fade over time.
Yes ager can be removed, Hydrex works well for that but the dye penetrates better on untreated stone.
Next week I am going to Tepox an entire travertine floor. Be lookin' for the pics.
