activator turning edge green
I am having a problem with CA glue activator turning the edge green of certain stones. Ive noticed this about Two years ago. I narrowed it down to, The aerosol spray (not the glue), and a few stones such as Crema bordeaux, Sienna Bordeaux, and Bianco antico. I just used the pump activator, Problem solved. Now I am getting call backs for green edges on stones like juperana golden eagle, Vyara gold, and one or two others. Does anyone have a solution to this? I had heard that regular hydrogen peroxide will get rid of the green, and on my way to the store to get some now. Any Info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Re: activator turning edge green
Hi JPR.
What this reaction is called is blooming, and there are several concoctions and techniques for getting rid of them as well as ways to avoid them.
My favorite to remove is acetone, mixed with comet with bleach poultice.
If you do a search for blooms, blooming, ca glue, you will find several threads relating to your problems, as it's been discussed many times.
Some of them are in the general forum, others may be in the members forum.
If you are a fabricator, it is well worthwhile for membership as all here will attest.
Also if you will do us a favor and go to user settings and add a signature so we know who we are talking to, it is greatly appreciated.

Re: activator turning edge green
Thats awesome. Thanks. I'm assuming that all edges that need ager, or color enhancer on them should be done before the hydro seal. if the repair is near that otherwise the age wont take. Or am i wrong? For example if i have to repair a crack thru a sink in crema bordeaux. Should i ager that edge so that i dont have a light spot were the hydroseal is? Lately i have just been using the hot, ncf, pump spray activator, from granquartz on anything light. But it doesn't seem to hold as good, and it definitely take longer to dry. THANK YOU.

Thanks Guy, for fixing the Youtube video!
And yes, any enhancers (like Ager) should be applied prior to the Hyrdoseal 300 and CA glue.

switch to the pump spray for a while and see if it helps. I have never had a bloom. I wonder if it is in the accelerant.

The pump spray wont last in our install kits. My guys are too rough with tools. Hard to kill an aerosol can.Stone Dude wrote:DavidL wrote:Cam - I use the Great Planes CA but I use the aerosol activitor. My only blooms are on Sienna Bordeaux.

Re: activator turning edge green
Prevent Blooming
Just wanted to put this out there. On colors that are likely to bloom I've been using granite dust as the accelerator. I have not had any adverse effects such as scratching or dulling. It does take an extra 10 SECONDS or so to set off the glue but well worth the wait since I can still use the glue . Best part is....not one single bloom. Of course this is more for seams than edge repair but again just wanted to put it out there.

Try not using accelerator
Honestly it doesn't take long for the glue to set.

We typically use color matched Akami on edge chips, in the field it's the same or use plexus.
