Proliner users
Its been so long since i entered my compensation into my proliner I forget the reasoning.
I have it set to right compensation. On an island I would template clockwise and on a set of cabinets I would work right to left on the front and then right to left on the back. Is this right, because for some reason I thought I had left compensation on.
Also, how often do you guys get these serviced, my wire is starting to not retract properly.

Re: Proliner users
I think thats correct from what I understood and how I have been doing it, though I am opposite of you and do left.
Another couple questions, if I can add in here to Mike,
I had a crazy template yesterday that took forever on a large commercial kitchen, 30 min worth of gathering points and finishing up I get a critical error screen, saying contact my supplier.
I called prodim, but no one was in tech support.
Luckily i was able to restart and do over. Hopefully the data will download.
My cable where it is attached to the ball is starting to fray. Anyone know about repairing this?

Re: Proliner users
That cable will break soon! We've had to send ours back in and have the cable fixed three or four times. I think it's about 500 bucks but I'm not sure. John Richerts told me how to avoid this problem, but over time it is going to happen.

Re: Proliner users
We just sent ours in for the first time a few months ago since we got it in 2008. The shipping sucks more than the service cost. You're only without it for about 3-4 days total.

Re: Proliner users
I use ours without any compensation. That way the point i'm getting is from the tip of the pen. Am i using this machine wrong? Haven't had any bad installs because of it.

Re: Proliner users
I think that gives the point in the middle of the ball, so if you templated between walls, it would be off half the diameter of the ball. I think!Mid Missouri Surfaces wrote:I use ours without any compensation. That way the point i'm getting is from the tip of the pen.

Re: Proliner users
As I've said in other posts, we like to know EXACTLY where walls and cabinets are. Then we offset from there. So we use a left hand compensation.Mid Missouri Surfaces wrote:I use ours without any compensation. That way the point i'm getting is from the tip of the pen. Am i using this machine wrong? The way you are doing it, your templates are always going to be off by 2.5mm (just shy of 1/8") That gives you a built in relief area already. Nothing wrong with doing it this way.

Re: Proliner users
Lets say you have cabinets on both sides. Using a left comp. how would it know to measure the right side of the ball when you are templating the right cabinet wall? I think i said that right.

The compensation is tricky until it "clicks".Mid Missouri Surfaces wrote:Lets say you have cabinets on both sides. Using a left comp. how would it know to measure the right side of the ball when you are templating the right cabinet wall? I think i said that right.
The compensation is the side of the ball that it draws the line on based on the direction that you are measuring. Imagine you are walking down a hallway. You are the center of the ball. No compensation draws a line in the middle of the hall. If you have left hand compensation, stick your left hand out and that is the side that it draws the line on. Right hand comp, just the reverse. So if you are left hand comp and you walk down the hall, it draws the line on the left wall. (we'll call it the west wall). Stop drawing, turn around and start walking/drawing again. It's now drawing it on the left hand wall as you walk, but it's now the east wall.
Same goes with cabinets. Left to right on cabinets draws against the cabs. Where people get messed up is that they then go "right to left" on the wall with draws the line OFF the wall by 5mm. You need to go left to right on the wall also.
Chew on that and ask more questions. I'm typing fast b/c I'm trying to close up and go home.

Re: Proliner users
Mike,
I keep it simple with no compensation. The line is always in the center of the ball.
If your off .1 at the wall and .1 off at the cabinet its the same measurement.
You will not make a mistake with what direction to go. Whe you have cabinet
to cabinet on both ends just add .1 to both sides for a net fit.
Call Jim White at Produm USA 888-229-3328 for service.

Re: Proliner users
It is really very simple, Moving forward from point A to point B, compensation is either to the right of that line or the left of that line depending on the setting you choose, RIGHT or LEFT.
